Cleveland's Party Dance Band

CD Review: pOUT
For Real (Dragonmuffin)

Calling yourself "Ohio's party dance band" is just asking for trouble. But pOUT admirably blend genres on an album of originals and covers that isn't exactly dance music in the sense that every track makes you want to get up and jump around. More than anything, that's a compliment to the group's versatility. For Real kicks off with its funkiest cut, "Stand Up," then rolls through a mix of R&B, classic rock, and alternative music (including covers of Radiohead and Neil Young). It's hard to pin down exactly what sort of audience pOUT are going for, but that might be the point. They're simply in it to get you on the dance floor and have a good time. — Steve DiMatteo

American Diabetes Association Divas for Diabetes

“Votruba Harbor” was the site for a unique musical fundraiser on a postcard-perfect evening Aug. 27. The American Diabetes Association event was held at the private lakefront residence of Bill Votruba in Avon Lake. More than 450 guests enjoyed the music of five bands fronted by female singers — Maura Rogers and the Rusty Souls, Kearsten Kopf and Friends, Shannon Paul and Nomad Soul, Michelle Romary and pOUT and Kelly Bishop and Crazy Chester. The event also featured a variety of auctions and raffles. Organizers said they hoped to raise about $10,000. — Bob Migra, Special thanks to The Plain Dealer"
